4 Men Injured, Motorbikes Gutted in Transformer Blast
Hyderabad, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th Sep, 2026) A pole-mounted electricity transformer exploded in Khai Road area here on Friday night, leaving over half a dozen persons injured, besides perishing dozens of chickens and gutting five motorbikes, including a loader rickshaw.
According to Dilbar Halepoto, spokesperson of Rescue 1122, the PMT's oil spilled with the explosion, leading to fires in close proximity vehicles. He stated that the injured were transported to the Liaquat University Hospital (LUH).
Halepoto further added that firefighters from his department also extinguished a fire that spread on the electric pole bearing three transformers and surrounding vehicles.
Local residents, speaking to the media, complained of repeated repairs to the damaged transformer. Rizwan, a resident who sustained bruises, recounted how he and his family fought to prevent their house from catching fire.
The burnt individuals taken to LUH include Muzaffar, Kamran, Faizan, and Sirajuddin; two with 80% and 60% burns respectively. Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan's MPA advocate Rashid Khan criticized the residents for not informing him about the repaired transformer, contrasting it with the Executive Officer of Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO), Faizullah Dahiri’s statement advocating for replacing old transformers rather than repairing them.
Sadiq Kubar, spokesperson for HESCO, expressed the company's CEO's sorrow over the incident and confirmed the formation of an inquiry committee to submit a report within 24 hours.
