795 Trees Being Replanted From Metro Bus Project: Commissioner
Divisional Commissioner Dr Imran Hamid Sheikh on Tuesday clarified that only 150 eucalyptus (Sufaida) trees standing along the metro bus routes were being auctioned through the prescribed government procedure while the replantation of 795 large trees affected by the project was progressing rapidly to protect green cover of the city.
He explained that eucalyptus trees could not be replanted because of their high water consumption, considerable height, and lack of environmental compatibility with the conditions required for successful replantation. He further stated that contrary to any impression, large-scale tree removal was not being undertaken for the metro bus project; instead, replantation of these 795 large trees within the project routes had already begun at a fast pace.
The relevant authorities are taking measures to ensure that the development project progresses alongside efforts to preserve and enhance environmental and green assets of the city.
