ACP Hosts Tribute Ceremony in Honour of Renowned Poet Abbas Tabish
The Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi hosted a tribute ceremony in honour of renowned poet Abbas Tabish at the Haseena Moin Hall. The ceremony was presided over by acclaimed poet Zehra Nigah, with President of the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi, Muhammad Ahmed Shah, attending as a special guest.
Attended by Professor Sahar Ansari, Fariha Naqvi, Wajeeh Sani, Ahmed Salman, prominent poets, writers, and other distinguished literary personalities, the event was a literary gathering that came alive with the recitation of Tabish's poetry.
Zehra Nigah stated that while there is talk of the decline of traditional mushaira, a good poet's ghazal or poem can revive the spirit of these literary gatherings. She emphasized that Abbas Tabish, through his poetry, carried the entire mushaira on his shoulders.
"A good poem never dies," Nigah observed.
Abbas Tabish, speaking at the occasion, encouraged the younger generation to stay connected to classical literature and the traditions set by senior poets, emphasizing that literary progress is only possible when rooted in its foundations.
Muhammad Ahmed Shah expressed his delight at the presence of Zehra Nigah and Abbas Tabish, describing the evening as truly memorable. He highlighted the regular literary programs in Urdu, Sindhi, and other languages held at the Arts Council, and the ongoing tradition of honoring senior literary figures. He announced an upcoming event with Ahmed Salman scheduled for September 15.
