Acting President Gilani Stresses Collective Responsibility For Protecting Pakistan’s Biodiversity
ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 6th Sep, 2026) Acting President Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, Sunday, stated that Pakistan is endowed with extraordinary biodiversity and remarkable wildlife, emphasizing the collective responsibility to safeguard this natural treasure.
Addressing Safari Club International, Pakistan Chapter’s international conservation fundraiser gala dinner, he noted that successful conservation efforts stem from collaboration between parliament, government, local communities, hunters, hunting outfitters, and conservation organizations.
"Ethical and responsible hunting, when conducted lawfully and sustainably, can contribute to wildlife conservation by generating meaningful benefits for communities living alongside wildlife," he added.
Gilani stressed the need for legislative and policy frameworks that consider the perspectives of:
- Communities
- Wildlife professionals
- Hunters
- Hunting outfitters
- Other legitimate stakeholders
He urged close coordination among all parties to ensure responsible hunting aligned with biodiversity and conservation goals.
Moreover, the acting president acknowledged the crucial role of:
- Responsible hunters adhering to legal standards and ethical practices
- Licensed hunting outfitters serving as a bridge between hunters, wildlife authorities, and communities, contributing positively to sustainable hunting and wildlife management.
The event gathered Syed Sumsam Bukhari, former federal and provincial minister and Chairman Safari Club International, Pakistan Chapter, along with international delegates, former ministers, representatives of SCI and its Pakistan chapter, and federal and provincial wildlife authority members.
Gilani commended SCI Pakistan for bringing together participants dedicated to wildlife conservation, advocating for hunter rights, and promoting responsible hunting. He highlighted the importance of such platforms in sharing global experiences and Pakistani expertise across diverse ecological regions.
He further emphasized the role of organizations like SCI and the SCI Foundation in supporting conservation, wildlife management, education, and international cooperation.
