Muzaffarabad, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 1st Nov, 2026) Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister Iftikhar Gillani has ruled out any possible curtailment of AJK's powers, stating that there shall be no reduction in the powers devolved to the assembly under the 13th Constitutional Amendment.
Addressing lawyers in Muzaffarabad, Gillani dismissed propaganda suggesting a change in the region's status as baseless. He viewed amendments to constitutional provisions as an evolutionary process, citing the 14th and 15th Amendments as subsequent steps to the 13th.
"Law is an evolutionary process and amendments are made for public welfare." said Gillani, adding that any amendment in the public interest could be presented and debated in the House. He emphasized dialogue as a civilized way to understand different perspectives.
Gillani highlighted his government's focus on restoring trust in state institutions and providing timely justice through a functional Law Commission, which he noted could solve 90% of problems. He also announced plans to provide land to the AJK Bar Council for housing and to establish a Lawyers Protection Act, to be presented in the next cabinet meeting.
