AJK President Urges Renewed International Diplomacy For UN-backed Kashmir Settlement
UrduPoint (3rd Oct, 2026) - MIRPUR (AJK) (APP - UrduPoint news - 3rd Oct, 2026): President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Dr. Muhammad Najeeb Naqi, has called for intensified international diplomatic efforts to advance a peaceful settlement of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.
Talking to a delegation of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), led by Convener Ghulam Muhammad Safi, during a meeting at the President's residence on Saturday, Dr. Naqi said the internationally recognised dispute could only be resolved by implementing the UN resolutions guaranteeing the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.
He stated that Pakistan continues to offer political, diplomatic, and moral support to the Kashmiri people and urged the international community to play its role in securing their right to self-determination promised under the UN resolutions.
Referring to India's actions of August 5, 2019, Dr. Naqi said the legislation enacted by the Indian Parliament could not alter the disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir. He requested the international community to take note of the human rights situation in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir and support protecting the fundamental rights of the Kashmiri people.
He urged for intensified diplomatic efforts to highlight alleged human rights violations, including arbitrary arrests and prolonged detention of political and human rights activists, restrictions on freedom of expression, and other reported abuses. He also requested unhindered access for UN human rights bodies and international observers to assess the ground situation.
Dr. Naqi emphasised that the United Nations and international organisations should fulfil their legal and moral responsibilities towards the Kashmiri people and pressure India to implement relevant UN resolutions for a peaceful settlement of the dispute.
