Aleem Khan Welcomes Debate on New Provinces
ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 5th Sep, 2026) President of the Istehkam Pakistan Party (IPP) Abdul Aleem Khan has welcomed Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal’s views on the creation of new provinces, describing the growing political debate as a positive development.
He stated that new provinces should be established based on administrative needs and public convenience, rather than linguistic or cultural considerations. According to him, this is not a matter for any single political party but a crucial issue concerning the country's future.
Khan urged all political parties to engage in serious and meaningful dialogue instead of using it for political point-scoring. He pointed out that the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assemblies have already passed resolutions supporting new provinces, while Sindh has had a rural-urban quota system since 1972.
The IPP president believes that new administrative units can better address public issues and improve governance. He advocates for reorganizing Pakistan's administrative structure to meet present and future demands. The IPP has previously supported the creation of Hazara province in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and is open to discussing the matter with all parties and stakeholders.
"Differences of opinion are part of democracy," Khan said, "but political forces should collaborate to advance this debate logically for the national good."
