ANP Raises Concerns Over Health Facilities and Alleges Financial Irregularities in KP

PESHAWAR, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 19th Aug, 2026) Awami National Party (ANP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa spokesperson Arsalan Khan Nazim has raised concerns over the state of healthcare facilities in the province, alleging shortages at major hospitals and financial irregularities involving billions of rupees.

Addressing a press conference at Peshawar Press Club, he claimed that prostate surgeries had not been performed at Lady Reading Hospital for the past two months and that the hospital had only 28 ICU beds. He stated that the number of ICU beds at major public hospitals in the province had not increased since 2013, and no significant development work had been undertaken at the Khyber Institute of Cardiology.

Furthermore, he alleged that stents for cardiac patients had remained unavailable at Hayatabad Medical Complex for the past two to three weeks. The ANP spokesperson also brought to light serious financial irregularities at Hayatabad Medical Complex, claiming that purchases worth Rs4.5 billion had been made without tenders or competitive analysis and that relevant records were missing. He estimated financial losses amounting to Rs14 billion at the hospital, including Rs3.6 billion under the SSP head.

Arsalan Khan emphasized that political leaders could seek medical treatment, but ordinary citizens deserved basic healthcare facilities as well. The ANP demanded a transparent and immediate investigation into the alleged financial irregularities in the health sector, stating that they would continue raising issues of corruption and mismanagement and advocating for public rights.
