Armed Robber Held After Encounter With Police
MUZAFFARGARH, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 4th Sep, 2026) Police arrested one robber after three armed robbers opened fire on a police party during a checkpoint operation in Muzaffargarh, while two of his accomplices escaped under the cover of darkness.
The incident occurred near Basti Tilla Sanki Chowk in the jurisdiction of Sadr Police Station when SHO Sadr, accompanied by other police officials, signalled three unidentified robbers riding an unregistered Honda 125 motorcycle to stop.
Instead of complying, the robbers opened fire at the police party. A bullet struck the bulletproof jacket worn by Sub-Inspector Iftikhar Shah, saving him from serious injury, a police spokesperson said.
Police returned fire in self-defence and chased the fleeing robbers. During the pursuit, the three suspects lost control of their motorcycle due to overspeeding and crashed into a tree.
One robber, identified as Waqas alias Kashi, was injured and arrested, while his two accomplices managed to flee.
Police said the arrested robber was a record holder and had previously been involved in cases of theft, robbery and housebreaking. His leg was fractured after the motorcycle collided with the tree.
The injured robber was shifted to hospital through Rescue 1122, while a search operation was underway to arrest his two absconding accomplices, the spokesperson added.
