Aurangzeb Calls For Translating Climate Commitments Into Tangible Results

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 25th Sep, 2026)

Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb on Friday emphasized the need to translate climate commitments into tangible projects and measurable outcomes that bring concrete benefits to communities.

He made these remarks while participating in the Climate Implementation Bridge (BRIDGE) event, part of his engagements during the UNGA High-Level Week. According to a Finance Ministry news release, Aurangzeb is in New York as part of Pakistan's high-level delegation led by the Prime Minister.

The minister identified three crucial elements for effective climate implementation:

  • A sound policy framework
  • Access to finance
  • Capacity to deliver projects at the country level

He highlighted Pakistan's progress in strengthening its climate policy framework and efforts to mobilize financing through various means, including domestic resources, international financial institutions, capital markets, and climate funds. However, he noted that institutional fragmentation and a lack of investable projects continue to hinder implementation.

Referring to the 2022 floods, Aurangzeb observed that despite generous international pledges, some support remained unutilized, emphasizing the importance of developing suitable projects and strengthening implementation capacity at the national level.

He welcomed Pakistan's participation in BRIDGE and called on partners to reach consensus on practical "no-regret" decisions to move the initiative from discussion to action. He stressed the significance of transforming climate commitments into concrete projects with measurable outcomes, ensuring that climate action delivers tangible benefits for communities.

Aurangzeb's engagements during the UNGA High-Level Week highlight Pakistan's commitment to:

  • Strengthening climate resilience
  • Mobilizing resources for climate action
  • Building effective international partnerships to support implementation on the ground.
