A British man has been charged in Singapore for theft, two years after he allegedly stole a denim jacket from a store at Changi Airport.

Singapore has charged a 26-year-old British national with theft, more than two years after he allegedly stole a blue denim jacket worth S$350 ($275; £202) from a retail store at the airport shopping mall.
The police received a report of the theft on 14 August 2024, when a retail assistant noticed the missing jacket from a display mannequin. Surveillance footage showed a man removing the jacket and leaving without paying.
By the time authorities identified him, he had left Singapore. He was arrested on 15 August this year while in transit and charged on Tuesday.

The Singapore Police Force stated:
"The police take a serious stance of shop theft and will deal firmly with offenders in accordance with the law. Offenders should not assume that they can evade detection simply by leaving Singapore after committing an offence."
In a separate incident, a 50-year-old Polish woman was arrested on 11 June this year for stealing two bottles of perfume from retail stores inside one of the airport's terminals. She was charged with theft on Tuesday.
Those convicted of theft in Singapore face up to seven years in jail.
