CDA to Abide By Court Decision on Katchi Abadis: Chief Officer MCI
ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 6th Sep, 2026) Chief Officer of MCI (Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad) and Director DMA Dr. Anam Fatima has stated that the authority will adhere to court orders regarding Katchi Abadis, as the matter is currently under legal review.
She explained to Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) that CDA will strictly comply with the law and judicial directives while addressing issues related to informal settlements in the federal capital.
The Directorate Municipal Administration (DMA) clarified that CDA's goal is not simply to evict residents of Katchi Abadis. Instead, they are examining each case based on official records, legal status, land ownership, field surveys, and individual settlement circumstances.
Dr. Anam assured that the rights of legitimate residents recognized under the relevant framework will be protected. Unauthorized constructions, encroachments, and commercial activities in violation of rules will, however, be handled according to law.
She mentioned that 10 Katchi Abadis are acknowledged within the existing CDA framework, while the status of others will be determined after verifying official records, land ownership, and fulfilling all legal requirements.
The Chief Officer of MCI emphasized the need for individual assessments of each settlement, considering their diverse legal statuses, infrastructure needs, and specific circumstances.
She highlighted that this issue goes beyond housing; it encompasses environmental protection, sanitation, drainage, solid-waste management, public health, road access, fire safety, and long-term urban planning considerations.
Regarding environmental and municipal challenges, Dr. Anam drew attention to the lack of proper sanitation, waste disposal, and drainage facilities in some informal settlements, negatively impacting the environment and public services. She specifically cited garbage dumping in drains in G-7, causing drainage and cleanliness issues and posing health risks.
She also noted unauthorized commercial activities, such as shops established without permission, in G-7, which would be examined according to approved land-use regulations and municipal laws.
Dr. Anam stated that recommendations regarding informal settlements have been prepared by relevant authorities, covering legal status, CDA jurisdiction, availability of official records, and responsibilities of concerned government departments.
She concluded that any future actions will be based on verified information and court orders, ensuring a comprehensive and legally sound approach.
