Chairman WAPDA Visits Mohmand Dam Project, Reviews Construction Progress

UrduPoint (3rd Sep, 2026) - ISLAMABAD: Chairman WAPDA Lt Gen Muhammad Saeed (Retd) visited the Mohmand Dam Hydropower Project being constructed across River Swat in Mohmand District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Member WAPDA (Water) Asim Rauf Khan accompanied him.

During his visit, the Chairman reviewed construction activities at key sites, focusing on the Main Dam and Power House, according to a message received.

Speaking on the occasion, he emphasized that Mohmand Dam is a strategic national project crucial for Pakistan's water, food, and energy security. He directed WAPDA's team, consultants, and contractors to accelerate construction works while adhering to technical benchmarks and quality standards, ensuring timely completion.

He reiterated the project's significance for Pakistan's long-term growth and economic stability.

Earlier, the Chairman presided over a progress review meeting with the board of Management, Mohmand Dam Consulting Group, and contractors at the Project Office.

Mohmand Dam is a multi-purpose project. Upon completion, it will store 1.29 MAF (gross storage) of water for irrigation; mitigate floods in Charsadda, Mardan, and Nowshera; supply 300 million gallons per day of drinking water to Peshawar; generate 800 MW electricity; and provide 2.86 billion units of clean and affordable hydel electricity to the National Grid annually.
