CM Adviser, DC Review Lakshmi Chowk Restoration Plan

LAHORE, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 23rd Aug, 2026) A Unified Building Plan will be introduced within a 200-metre radius of historic Lakshmi Chowk to restore its heritage character and enhance its overall appearance on the directives of Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz Sharif, here on Sunday.

Adviser to the Chief Minister Zeeshan Malik and Lahore Deputy Commissioner (DC) Muhammad Ali Ejaz visited Lakshmi Chowk and reviewed the proposed restoration and beautification measures. Chief Officer Metropolitan Corporation Lahore Kaleem Yousaf and other relevant officials were also present.

Under the plan, buildings around the chowk will follow uniform design and beautification standards, while similar designing and beautification will be ensured beneath the Metro bridge. A uniform signage policy will also be enforced to eliminate visual pollution, allowing only one signboard of a uniform design on each building.

The officials directed a detailed inspection of the interior and exterior of historic buildings and sought a comprehensive report on their preservation along with a roadmap for improvement. Experts will also be consulted to enhance the beauty of the historic structures while protecting their heritage value.

CM Adviser Zeeshan Malik said the historic identity of Lakshmi Chowk would be restored at all costs, adding that the Unified Building Plan would enhance the beauty of the area and its restoration would be a great gift for citizens. He emphasized high standards in construction and designing, stating that preserving historical heritage is a social and moral responsibility.

The DC directed relevant authorities to ensure strict implementation of the Unified Building Plan, stating that all construction within the 200-meter radius would follow uniform standards.
