CM Decides to Introduce AI-powered Multi-disease Scanner in Punjab

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has decided to introduce an AI-powered multi-disease scanner in Punjab as part of efforts to modernize healthcare services and facilitate faster and more effective screening and diagnosis of diseases.

During a meeting with executives of the Chinese technology company Alibaba, the chief minister received a detailed briefing on the advanced technology. She expressed keen interest in the proposed AI-powered scanning solution and directed health authorities to prepare a pilot project for its introduction in Punjab.

The AI-powered multi-disease screening solution utilizes non-contrast CT technology, capable of screening for multiple diseases within approximately two minutes. This system can assist healthcare professionals in disease screening, detection, diagnosis, treatment planning, and subsequent management.

According to the briefing, the technology can facilitate early screening and detection of several serious conditions, such as:

  • Pancreatic cancer
  • Liver cancer
  • Gastric cancer
  • Esophageal cancer
  • Colorectal cancer

It also supports assessment of cardiovascular disease risks and helps evaluate muscle and body-fat composition. The system can further assist in assessing osteoporosis and fatty liver disease, providing additional diagnostic information to aid timely medical intervention.

CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif emphasized the importance of leveraging modern technology and artificial intelligence to enhance healthcare delivery, strengthen early disease detection, and provide patients with better, more accessible diagnostic facilities.

She directed relevant health authorities to formulate the pilot project and take necessary steps for its implementation in Punjab.
