LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Sep, 2026) Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday launched the fourth phase of the Green Tractor Scheme through digital balloting and opened the application portal for its fifth phase. Under this initiative, 19,500 tractors will be provided to farmers during the current fiscal year.

The CM initiated the digital balloting process by pressing a button, with Masood Khan, son of Lal Khan from Attock, becoming the inaugural successful applicant to receive a tractor under Phase IV.

Phase IV entails the distribution of 10,000 tractors with a horsepower range of 50-65 and a subsidy of Rs750,000 per tractor. Phase V will offer 9,500 high-powered tractors with a horsepower range of 75-125 at a subsidy of Rs1 million each.

According to a press release, the Punjab government has allocated Rs17.6 billion for the Green Tractor Scheme, and a total of 24,000 tractors have been provided to farmers under the programme with a subsidy of Rs1 million per tractor.

Over 213,637 farmers applied for the scheme, with 128,757 being declared eligible after verification through Punjab Land Records Authority and Nadra.

The CM congratulated the successful applicants and inspected the tractors on offer under the scheme, including locally manufactured 90-horsepower and locally assembled 100-horsepower models.

The briefing highlighted the progress in agricultural mechanisation in Punjab, stating that 35,000 tractors have been distributed during Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif's two-and-a-half-year tenure compared to just 10,000 over the previous 20 years. Similarly, Rs20 billion has been spent on agricultural mechanisation in the last two-and-a-half years, a significant jump from Rs3 billion over two decades.

Punjab has also witnessed local manufacturing of 90-horsepower tractors and assembly of 100-horsepower tractors for the first time. Farmers owning five acres or more of agricultural land were eligible to apply for the scheme, with district-wise quotas determined based on the proportion of cultivated land. Bhakkar, Jhang, Lodhran, and Vehari among others received relatively higher allocations.

Provincial Agriculture Minister Ashiq Kirmani noted that five locally manufactured tractor models were included in the scheme, contributing to an increase in tractor manufacturing and sales in Punjab.
