CM Orders Comprehensive Road Maintenance

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed the establishment of a Special Road Maintenance Squad in every district to ensure daily inspection, maintenance, cleanliness, and timely repair of damaged roads across the province.

During a special video-link meeting held on Tuesday, the CM instructed commissioners and deputy commissioners to closely monitor ongoing development projects within their respective districts, ensuring adherence to approved designs, materials, and technical standards.

She emphasized:

  • "There will be no compromise on transparency and quality" of ongoing projects throughout Punjab.

The CM ordered the following measures:

  • Installation of cat’s eyes on designated urban roads and use of thermoplastic road markings for durability and aesthetic appeal.
  • Proper installation and maintenance of road markings, lane markings, traffic signs, and directional signs in accordance with approved technical standards.
  • Avoidance of concrete planters in the middle of roads and adherence to prescribed technical standards for all road safety measures.
  • Visually attractive footpaths with harmonious colors, ensuring durability and safety.
  • Modern and contemporary designs for city entrances, inspired by examples from China, while following approved concepts adapted to local contexts at tehsil entry points.
  • Lighting installations that are energy-efficient, durable, safe, and easy to maintain on designated roads.
  • Planning of food streets as dedicated commercial areas with appropriate infrastructure, cleanliness, parking, access, and traffic management facilities.
  • Organization of activities in all vegetable markets across Punjab, including proper access, cleanliness, traffic management, and commercial activities.

The CM stressed that all development projects must adhere strictly to approved designs, materials, and technical specifications, ensuring quality, transparency, and timely completion.
