CM Orders Zero-tolerance Policy Against Crimes Targeting Women and Children
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has ordered strict action against corrupt police officials and directed Inspector General of Police Punjab to identify and remove corrupt elements from the force within a week.
During a special meeting on law and order, she expressed her zero-tolerance for crimes against women and children, stating: "Children and women are my red line. No one involved in crimes against them will be spared."
The meeting highlighted a declining trend in overall crime in Punjab, with notable reductions in robbery (54% decline), murder (35% decline), car snatching (46% decline) and motorcycle theft (53% decline). In Lahore, these figures show even greater improvements: murder cases down 43%, robberies down 32%, car snatching down 43%, and motorcycle theft down 54%.
Key decisions from the meeting include:
- Linking operational control of Dolphin Police with respective police stations for better coordination.
- Equipping all Punjab Police personnel with body cameras by September 30.
- Installing GPS trackers and cameras in prisoner vans to prevent escape attempts.
- Strengthening measures for maintaining peace and security across the province, as the protection of citizens' life and property is a fundamental responsibility of the government.
