CM Punjab Says Policy Continuity Vital For Pakistan’s Development

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has stated that maintaining policy continuity is essential for Pakistan's development, arguing that the country's lack of consistent policies remains a significant obstacle.

Addressing a delegation of the National Command Authority Senior Officers Leadership Course in Lahore on October 2, 2026, she highlighted Pakistan's improved global image during its recent conflict with India, attributing this to the army and security institutions' efforts.

Sharif emphasized the importance of good governance and performance in addressing internal security challenges, urging a unified front despite regional differences. She claimed that Punjab's governance has improved due to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz's extended tenure in power.

While acknowledging that terrorism is still a concern in Punjab, the chief minister boasted of the province's progress, stating that previously designated "no-go areas" are now under control. She attributed this to enhanced security infrastructure, including fortified check posts, night-vision cameras, and 24/7 surveillance.

Sharif also discussed the Punjab government's efforts to combat corruption, highlighting the dismissal of around 1,000 police and revenue officials. The Safe City Authority, initially launched in Lahore, has expanded to 40 districts, providing security monitoring and addressing civic issues through camera surveillance.

Furthermore, she mentioned the virtual police stations for women, especially those facing domestic violence, and the UN-Habitat's recognition of the 'Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar' housing project as one of the five best housing initiatives.
