CM Sarfraz Bugti Vows Expansion of Safe City Surveillance Across Balochistan
QUETTA, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Aug, 2026) Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti has said that the Balochistan Safe City Authority is playing an effective role in maintaining law and order, preventing crime, and safeguarding citizens’ lives and property. He emphasized that the use of modern surveillance technology enables timely identification of crimes and suspicious activities, thereby strengthening police response mechanisms.
Presiding over a high-level meeting, CM Bugti reviewed the performance of the Safe City Authority, its monitoring systems, crime prevention measures, and capacity-building initiatives. Inspector General Police Balochistan Muhammad Tahir Khan briefed the meeting, revealing impressive statistics:
- Through the Safe City’s monitoring system, 138 stolen vehicles were identified nationwide.
- Nine suspicious activities were detected in time to foil major terrorist plots.
- The authority provided police with 631 crucial pieces of evidence from crime scenes.
- The 15 Helpline Emergency Response Service has been integrated with the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), enhancing coordination and rapid response during emergencies.
CM Bugti praised the authority’s performance, directing officials to accelerate efforts for upgrading surveillance systems and aligning them with modern requirements. He announced that the Safe City network would be expanded to more districts of Balochistan, ensuring wider coverage and stronger protection for citizens. He also stated that the provincial government would seek technical expertise and cooperation from the Punjab Safe City Authority to further enhance capacity.
Sarfraz Bugti reiterated that strengthening technology-driven security and surveillance systems is a top priority of the government, as timely intelligence and effective response are key to crime prevention and public safety. He instructed relevant departments to intensify practical measures for improving monitoring systems, expanding resources, and ensuring transparency in operations.
The Chief Minister concluded that modern surveillance is the need of the hour, and the government will mobilize all necessary resources to secure peace, protect citizens, and strengthen governance across Balochistan.
