Commissioner Lasbela Highlights Mining Sector’s Role in Economic Growth

QUETTA, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 8th Sep, 2026) Commissioner Lasbela Division Saira Atta has underscored the vital role of Balochistan’s mining and minerals sector in revenue generation and the broader national economy. She stated that the province’s vast mineral wealth holds significant potential for economic growth and development.

Speaking at a departmental briefing conducted by Director Mines and Minerals Muhammad Ibrahim Bazai, she expressed her administration's commitment to supporting the promotion and sustainable development of Balochistan’s mineral resources, in line with the Chief Minister’s vision.

Bazai informed the commissioner about the department’s efforts to tap Balochistan’s mineral potential. He explained that the Directorate of Mines and Minerals is responsible for licensing, collection of rents and royalties, production monitoring, and development activities. Currently, the department generates annual royalty revenue of Rs29.4823 million from Lasbela Division.

The briefing also highlighted measures to protect mine workers, with officials stating that the Chief Inspector of Mines oversees health and safety arrangements at mining sites.

Officials noted that District Awaran remains largely unexplored, requiring further geological survey to identify and develop its mineral resources.

Commissioner Saira Atta directed relevant authorities to intensify action against illegal crushing plants and unregistered mining companies. She also ordered the issuance of notices to contractors extracting or using minerals without paying required royalties, emphasizing effective regulation, transparency, and proper revenue collection.

She concluded that responsible management of mineral resources, enforcement of regulations, and exploration of untapped areas could unlock new economic opportunities for the province, ensuring that its mineral wealth contributes significantly to Balochistan’s development.
