Commissioner Orders Speedy Completion Of Ongoing Health Projects
BAHAWALPUR, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 11th Sep, 2026) A review meeting, chaired by Commissioner Bahawalpur Division, Irfan Ali Kathia, was held at Quaid-e-Azam Medical College to assess progress on the Thalassemia Children Hospital, Burns Unit, and other ongoing healthcare projects.
The commissioner directed all departments concerned to take effective measures for timely completion and operationalisation of the healthcare projects. In line with Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s vision of a healthy Punjab, timely completion of ongoing healthcare projects is being accorded top priority to provide citizens with quality and modern medical facilities.
Deputy Commissioner Bahawalpur Syed Hassan Raza, Medical Superintendent Bahawal Victoria Hospital Dr Abdul Rehman, Medical Superintendent Nawab Sir Sadiq Muhammad Khan Abbasi Hospital Dr Muhammad Hamid, Chief Executive Officer Health Dr Zeeshan Rauf, Director Health and Services Dr Syed Tanveer Shah, and other relevant officers attended the meeting.
The officers concerned briefed the meeting on the progress of the ongoing development schemes, construction activities, and the proposed course of action for their timely completion.
The meeting was informed that the Burns Unit was being established at a cost of Rs 4.300514 billion, with a total covered area of 110,000 square feet. An amount of Rs100.06 million had been spent on the project up to June 2026. The facility will include an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), burn reconstruction and high-dependency wards, pre- and post-operative areas, private rooms and four operation theatres.
The meeting was further informed that the Children’s Hospital Bahawalpur was being established at an estimated cost of Rs 11.740681 billion, while preparation of its working drawings was in progress. The 250-bed hospital will have paediatric emergency, medical, surgical and allied units, along with specialized services including neonatology, cardiology, neurology and gastroenterology. Beds have also been allocated for indoor paediatric surgery and allied services.
The Commissioner was also briefed on the operationalization of the Thalassemia Unit and Bone Marrow Transplant Centre. It was informed that Rs 255.598 million had been approved for completion of the remaining works at Bahawal Victoria Hospital, while the same amount had been allocated for the 2026-27 financial year.
Commissioner Irfan Ali Kathia directed the concerned departments to further accelerate work on all ongoing healthcare projects and ensure the use of high-quality construction materials. He made it clear that unnecessary delays in completion of the schemes would not be tolerated and directed that all development projects be completed within the stipulated timelines. He said that, in accordance with Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s vision of a “Healthy Punjab,” provision of quality healthcare and modern medical facilities to citizens is a top priority.
