Commissioner Reviews Progress On Red Zone Development, Beautification Projects
KARACHI, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 11th Sep, 2026) Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi has directed relevant civic authorities to expedite development, road rehabilitation, and beautification projects in the Red Zone and surrounding areas, ensuring their completion within stipulated timelines.
He issued these directives during a meeting attended by Deputy Commissioners South Javed Nabi Khoso and East Nasrullah Abbasi, Municipal Commissioner Karachi Metropolitan Corporation Abrar Jaffar, Director Development Naseem Bhutto, officials from Town Municipal Administrations (TMAs), and other concerned departments.
The meeting reviewed progress on projects executed by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), TMAs, Karachi Development Authority (KDA), and Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation. Officials informed that ongoing schemes had achieved 75% physical and 64% financial progress, with road carpeting, rehabilitation, horticulture, and beautification work underway at multiple sites.
The meeting was informed that beautification and development work at Kabootar Chowrangi would be completed this month. Carpeting of three major roads—Shahrah-e-Kamal Ataturk, Court Road, and Strachan Road—is targeted for completion within the next 10 days. Work on Court Road and remaining sections will commence after Shahrah-e-Kamal Ataturk’s carpeting is finished.
Commissioner Naqvi also ordered immediate steps to enhance cleanliness around the National Museum, remove accumulated debris, and improve Burns Garden. Officials reported that debris removal from museum premises had already begun, while work on improving the Burns Garden section adjacent to Strachan Road was underway.
He directed the preparation of a detailed chart showcasing project progress, expenditures, and photographic evidence of completed work. This information will aid in formulating recommendations regarding financial constraints for submission to the Sindh chief secretary.
Discussing Kabootar Chowrangi’s development, officials briefed that a design featuring greenery and a central monument for the roundabout had been prepared and approved by the Sindh government.
The commissioner also addressed workshops and encroachments along the road from Kabootar Chowrangi towards Burns Road, directing deputy commissioners and TMA officials to remove them promptly. He emphasized that roadside workshops obstruct traffic and pedestrian movement while damaging the area’s cleanliness and aesthetics.
Naqvi ordered authorities to complete legal actions and determine the future use of cleared spaces. A proposal was discussed for developing parking facilities, footpaths, street lighting, and a pedestrian walkway.
