CPEC 2.0 To Boost Industry, Exports And Technology: Assadi
ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 30th Aug, 2026) Research Fellow at the China International Press Communication Center, Muhammad Zamir Assadi, has said that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has significantly changed Pakistan’s economic, geographical and strategic landscape while its second phase can open new opportunities for industrial growth, exports, technology and public prosperity.
In a statement issued here on Sunday, he said the first phase of CPEC focused on developing basic infrastructure, including roads, energy projects and ports, which improved connectivity and created new opportunities for trade and economic activity.
Assadi's Recommendations for CPEC 2.0
He suggested that CPEC 2.0 should now:
- Turn connectivity into industrial cooperation.
- Develop infrastructure into value chains.
- Diversify energy projects into economic diversification.
Assadi emphasized the following key areas for cooperation under CPEC 2.0:
- Special Economic Zones (SEZs) as major centres of manufacturing and exports, requiring increased foreign investment and stronger partnerships.
- Connecting Pakistani businesses, particularly SMEs, with global supply chains.
- Agriculture development through modern farming technologies, improved irrigation, cold storage, and value addition.
- Technology as a key pillar, including artificial intelligence, telecommunications, smart logistics, digital payments, and e-commerce.
Importance of Education and Sustainability
He highlighted the importance of:
- Stronger cooperation between educational institutions and industry.
- Updated curricula and technical and vocational training for young people.
- Sustainable development through renewable energy, energy-efficient industrial systems, and environmentally friendly construction practices.
Assadi noted that while CPEC has laid the foundation for infrastructure development, effective planning, investment, strong partnerships, and policy continuity are equally crucial for CPEC 2.0's successful implementation. He believes this could help diversify Pakistan’s industrial base, increase exports, and create wider economic opportunities for the people.
