CPI Records Inflation at 11.1% in August

The core inflation measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 11.1% on a year-on-year (YoY) basis in August 2026, compared to a 9.2% increase in the previous month and a 3.1% increase in August 2025, according to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

On a month-on-month basis, CPI inflation remained stable at 1.2% in August 2026, unchanged from the previous month but down from a 0.6% decrease in August 2025.

Breakdown by Urban and Rural Areas:

  • CPI Urban Inflation: Increased by 10.4% YoY in August 2026, up from 8.7% in July 2026 and 3.5% in August 2025. Month-on-month, it rose by 0.9%.
  • CPI Rural Inflation: Rose by 12.2% YoY in August 2026, compared to 9.9% in July 2026 and 2.5% in August 2025. It increased by 1.6% on a month-on-month basis.

Other Inflation Metrics:

  • Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) Inflation: Increased by 9.5% YoY in August 2026, down from 12.0% in July 2026 and 2.6% in August 2025. It rose by 0.9% month-over-month.
  • Wholesale Price Index (WPI) Inflation: Increased by 11.8% YoY in August 2026, compared to 9.4% in July 2026 and a decrease of 1.0% in August 2025. It rose by 2.0% month-on-month.

Core Inflation (Excluding Food and Energy):

  • Increased by 8.8% YoY in August 2026, up from 8.6% in July 2026 and 6.9% in August 2025. It rose by 0.5% month-on-month.
  • Core Inflation (Rural, Excluding Food and Energy): Increased by 8.5% YoY in August 2026, up from 8.1% in July 2026 and 7.8% in August 2025. It rose by 0.6% month-on-month.
