Crackdown Ordered Against Overloading and Gas Cylinders in School Transport
LAHORE, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 22nd Aug, 2026) Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore, Syed Abdul Rahim Sherazi, has ordered a strict crackdown on overloading and the use of gas cylinders in school vans, rickshaws, and buses.
The CTO instructed traffic police to enforce safety regulations strictly, emphasizing that LPG cylinders are prohibited in any vehicle used for school transport. He stressed the need to protect children, adding that no rickshaw driver will be allowed to seat a child in the front seat. Hanging schoolbags or other items on rickshaws is also forbidden. Similarly, passengers are not permitted to sit in the front seat of rickshaws operating on Canal Road.
Pickup drivers have been directed not to carry more than one passenger on the front seat. The CTO requested DSPs and the education unit to inform school administrations and parents about these safety measures. He urged parents to take responsibility for ensuring safe transportation for their children.
