Crime Surge In Rawalpindi Sparks Concern; Residents Urge Government Action
Rawalpindi, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Aug, 2026) A surge in murders, robberies, street crime, theft and burglaries has heightened concern among residents, who are urging the government and police authorities to take immediate and effective measures to protect lives and property.
Several serious incidents have been reported across the city over the past month, with citizens losing mobile phones, cash, motorcycles and other valuables. A number of murders have also added to public anxiety.
Police have reported several successful operations against criminal gangs, including the arrest of seven suspects involved in street crime, theft and burglary on Sunday and the recovery of stolen vehicles, mobile phones, cash and weapons.
Earlier, Morgah Police arrested a three-member inter-district gang allegedly targeting citizens returning from abroad and recovered stolen money worth over Rs10.3 million. Police have also arrested other suspects involved in street crime and motorcycle theft.
Despite these operations, residents say incidents continue to occur and have called for a more comprehensive strategy to curb crime.
About six murders have been reported in the city over the past month, including the broad-daylight killing of a citizen on Adiala Road on Monday and the shooting of a woman TikToker in Taxila.
Residents have urged the Punjab government and Inspector General Punjab Police to:
- Strengthen the Rawalpindi police command
- Increase patrolling
- Identify and closely monitor crime hotspots
- Improve the rapid-response system
- Ensure impartial action against criminal elements.
They said immediate and sustained government intervention was essential to restore public confidence and ensure the safety of citizens and their property.
