Punjab Minister Launches 24/7 Digital Monitoring System for Roads and Buildings
LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 3rd Sep, 2026) Punjab Minister for Communication and Works (C&W) Malik Sohaib Ahmad Bharth inaugurated the state-of-the-art Operation & Monitoring Control Room at the C&W Department today, marking a significant step towards digitizing and strengthening the monitoring of roads, bridges, and public buildings across Punjab.
This control room is an integrated digital facility linked to the department’s field formations, enabling round-the-clock monitoring of development and maintenance activities. C&W Secretary Raja Jahangir Anwar, Special Secretaries, Additional Secretaries, Chief Engineers, and IT officers attended the ceremony.
During the briefing, IT experts demonstrated the control room's functions and digital monitoring systems to the minister. They explained that the facility would monitor:
- Road construction and maintenance activities
- The Bridge Management System
- Digital Measurement Book (MB)
- Lab Automation System
- Buildings Management System
- Right of Way
on a 24/7 basis.
The minister was also informed about a system for monitoring overloading on roads integrated into the control room to protect road infrastructure and improve compliance. Malik Sohaib Ahmad Bharth emphasized prompt response to complaints related to roads and buildings, directing the department to gradually integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) into the control room to enhance monitoring, analysis, and decision-making.
He highlighted that the system will maintain a digital record of road construction and reconstruction history, including details such as:
- Construction/reconstruction dates
- Contractors involved
- Executive Engineers (XENs) and other field officers.
The minister described the Operation & Monitoring Control Room as a unique, state-of-the-art facility for the C&W Department, established in line with Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s vision of Digital Punjab. He noted that the integrated Complaint Management System would make the department's response to public complaints more effective and transparent while the digital monitoring mechanism would improve oversight of roads and buildings throughout the province.
