A father and son are in hospital in a life-threatening condition after an attack in their family home, which appeared "completely unprovoked", police have said.
Attack Details
Officers were called to reports of a disturbance at a house on Station Road, Thurnby, shortly before 00:30 BST on Thursday.
Leicestershire Police stated that a man in his 50s was stabbed multiple times and a boy, aged 15, was also stabbed by two masked men who entered the property. The force provided an update on Friday, stating both victims remain critical in hospital.
The police further noted that the man's wife, around 40 years old, suffered minor injuries to her hand and shoulder during the attack. Three other children present at the address were unharmed.
Police Response
In the interest of public and officer safety, armed officers were deployed; however, the suspects had left the house prior to their arrival.
The investigation, led by the East Midlands Special Operations Unit (EMSOU), will continue over the weekend to understand the circumstances and motive behind this attack.
Det Inspector Lorna Granville's Appeal
Det Insp Lorna Granville commented:
"This was a violent attack against a family in their own home which appears to have been completely unprovoked... I'd like to speak to anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious, unusual, or untoward in the area of Station Road and Somerby Road between 23:00 on Wednesday and the early hours of yesterday morning."
Granville encouraged anyone with relevant information, including dashcam or CCTV footage, to contact the police.
Councillor's Response
Simon Galton, councillor for Thurnby and Houghton, expressed his shock:
"Thurnby is a quiet place... we don't have serious violent crime of this nature. It's quite unprecedented in Thurnby."
