Decision To Form An Integrated Drainage System From Cantonment To Gajumata
LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 6th Sep, 2026) On the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, important progress has been made to relieve the citizens of East Lahore from drainage problems.
Meeting to Address Drainage Issues in East Lahore
An important meeting was held under the chairmanship of Secretary Housing Noorul Amin Mengal to resolve the drainage problems in East Lahore. Significant decisions were taken regarding the development of a joint and comprehensive strategy for rainwater drainage in the region, leading to the agreement to form an integrated drainage system for areas from Cantonment, Airport to Gajumata.
Committee Formation and Task Assignment
For this initiative, it was decided to establish a joint committee comprising the Housing Wing of the Pakistan Army and Punjab's Housing Department. The Secretary Housing also assigned crucial tasks to the WASA Lahore team.
Drainage System Improvements
The meeting further decided to:
- De-silt and expand Hadiyara and Chararr drains.
- Mobilize relevant departments to enhance the drainage system.
- Take action against encroachments on drains.
According to official sources, the existing drainage system in East Lahore will undergo a review to ensure a long-lasting solution to citizen's problems caused by recent heavy rains. A modern and comprehensive system will be developed for effective rainwater drainage, prioritizing issues in all relevant areas of East Lahore.
