Defence Morr Redesigning To Improve Traffic Flow, Reduce Travel Time: CTO
Lahore (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 28th Aug, 2026) Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi on Friday reviewed ongoing road engineering and redesigning work at Defence Morr, reaffirming Lahore Traffic Police’s commitment to resolving longstanding traffic issues and improving traffic flow.
During his visit, the CTO inspected practical changes being introduced in road design and traffic management at the intersection. He noted that:
- The turning lane at Defence Morr has been widened from 22 feet to 33 feet, significantly enhancing the road’s vehicle-handling capacity.
- Post-proposed road engineering improvements, the capacity of Defence Morr will surge from 6,000 to 9,000 vehicles per hour.
- Average speed at the intersection has escalated from 15-20 kilometres per hour to 40-45 kilometres per hour due to road engineering measures.
- Vehicle queue lengths have been cut down from 400-600 metres to approximately 100-150 metres.
- Crossing time for citizens at Defence Morr will decrease from 85-110 seconds to 45-60 seconds, slashing overall travel time from five to six minutes to around two to three minutes.
Shirazi emphasized that these enhanced traffic management measures will also dramatically reduce daily carbon emissions stemming from traffic congestion, dropping them from 6.4 tonnes to approximately 3.2 tonnes per day. He concluded by stating that modern traffic rationalization and improved road engineering will equip citizens with faster, safer, and smoother travel while easing congestion and enhancing overall traffic movement at Defence Morr.
