The establishment of the AI Council and construction of data centers have stalled due to a lack of financial resources, the Ministry of Information Technology said.
ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 29th Oct, 2026) Pakistan’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy has still not entered the implementation phase despite being approved by the Cabinet. According to the Ministry, the expected launch date is June 2027, conditional on securing the necessary funds.
The report highlights several delays:
- The proposed AI Council remains unestablished.
- Development of essential AI infrastructure, particularly data centers, has not progressed.
- The National AI Ecosystem Development Programme is lacking the required $1 billion in funding.
- Plans for a National AI Fund to support startups and scholarships are still in the planning stages.
The Ministry has reached out to international institutions like the World Bank and Asian Development Bank for financial assistance. The policy aims to include projects for AI infrastructure development, capacity building, scholarship programs, and startup support.
