Development Activities In Karachi Expanding Beyond Major Projects: Waqasi

KARACHI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - September 17, 2026) | Karamullah Waqasi, Parliamentary Leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party in the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), stated that development activities in Karachi are evolving beyond major projects to encompass streets, neighborhoods, and everyday civic needs.

Accelerating Street Rehabilitation

In a Thursday statement, Waqasi revealed that instructions have been conveyed to expedite the rehabilitation and improvement works on Karachi's internal streets. Consequently, the KMC has intensified ongoing development projects across various city areas. Rapid progress is being made on several streets in Shabbirabad and Chini-sar Town, while restoration work continues on Family Park Road and adjacent routes in District West.

Enhancing Basic Infrastructure

Waqasi informed that efforts are underway to strengthen basic infrastructure by improving several streets in the Abdullah Gabol area of District West, even though these areas fall outside KMC's jurisdiction. These initiatives aim to benefit residents by enhancing road access and civic infrastructure.

Digital Parking System Introduction

The Parliamentary Leader highlighted advancements toward implementing a digital parking system in Karachi. This system aims to establish an organized and transparent parking mechanism, providing citizens with structured parking facilities and digital receipts while enabling the KMC to maintain a comprehensive digital record of parking revenue. The goal is to address unregulated parking issues and enhance transparency in revenue collection.

Anti-Encroachment Operations

Addressing encroachments, Waqasi noted that instructions have been issued to the Anti-Encroachment Department to conduct operations across the city based on public complaints. Recent operations were executed in District West and Keamari, clearing footpaths around Banaras Chowrangi and Manghopir Road of illegal structures. Further actions will continue against encroachments obstructing pedestrian movement.

Shadman Information Technology Centre

Waqasi announced that construction of the Shadman Information Technology Centre in District Central has been concluded. This centre will offer citizens free training courses in modern technology, including computer and artificial intelligence programs. The centre's establishment not only provides access to advanced technological training but also helps safeguard valuable public land.
