KARACHI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - September 01, 2026) Development activities have formally commenced in the SITE Super Highway industrial area with special financial assistance from the Sindh government. The projects are expected to be completed by December 15, aiming to enhance basic infrastructure and create a more favorable environment for industrial and commercial sectors.
These insights were shared by Karimullah Waqasi, Parliamentary Leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party in the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation and spokesperson for the Mayor of Karachi, in a statement on Tuesday.
He revealed that the Sindh government has allocated a significant grant of Rs11.25 billion for seven industrial zones across Karachi. This funding has been distributed, allowing development work to cater to local needs and priorities in each area.
A notable allocation of Rs700 million is dedicated to the SITE Super Highway industrial zone. Waqasi explained that this funding will facilitate crucial development schemes and address infrastructure challenges impacting businesses within the area.
Unique Collaboration for Development
A distinctive aspect of this initiative is the involvement of industrialists in determining development priorities. Waqasi described it as a unique example in Pakistan, where the government provides funds while empowering industry representatives to identify urgent project needs.
He justified this approach by noting that industrialists have firsthand knowledge of the challenges faced by businesses and workers, ensuring that resources are allocated to genuine concerns. Furthermore, this collaboration can enhance coordination between government bodies and the industrial sector.
Emphasizing Industrial Zone Importance
Waqasi stressed the significance of Karachi’s industrial zones in economic activity, job creation, and revenue generation. He argued that improving infrastructure in these areas directly contributes to strengthening industrial operations and boosting economic growth.
Managing Traffic Concerns
Addressing traffic issues, the spokesperson suggested that heavy vehicles should utilize alternative routes whenever possible, avoiding densely populated urban areas. He explained that excessive movement of heavy traffic through cities intensifies congestion, exerting additional pressure on roads and infrastructure.
Regarding the Lyari Expressway and heavy vehicle usage, Waqasi proposed resolving this matter through consultations among relevant stakeholders.
