Novak Djokovic broke down in tears during a US Open first-round defeat by Argentina's Mariano Navone, highlighting the physical struggles the 39-year-old legend is facing.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion, seeded fourth, fought bravely but ultimately lost 7-6 (7-5) 5-7 4-6 6-2 6-1 in a dramatic match marked by his physical discomfort.
"I think it was obvious that it was an awful feeling on the court for me," Djokovic admitted.
Despite Navone's impressive victory, Djokovic managed to share a smile while congratulating his opponent post-match. However, as he returned to the locker room, emotions overwhelmed him once more.
This loss ends Djokovic's quest for a standalone record 25th Grand Slam singles title, which would surpass Australia's Margaret Court.
