DMT Marks Emirati Women’s Day by Spotlighting Women Shaping Everyday Life Across Abu Dhabi
The Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) is celebrating Emirati Women's Day 2026 with a month-long focus on the women behind the planning, transport, and infrastructure decisions that enhance the quality of everyday life across Abu Dhabi. This year’s national celebration, held under the theme 'We Emerge Stronger and Better', runs from August 28 to September 28, 2026.
The extended celebration aligns with the directives of H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Mother of the Nation, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation.
Across DMT and its entities, Emirati women contribute to policies, projects, and services that shape communities and residents' experiences. Throughout the month, DMT will highlight examples of women whose expertise has made practical differences, influencing everything from neighborhood planning to mobility improvements.
Mohamed Ali Al Shorafa, Chairman of DMT, stated: "Emirati women are already shaping how Abu Dhabi plans its neighborhoods, delivers infrastructure, and improves mobility. Their impact is strongest when it extends beyond representation to influence major projects, policies, and decisions that affect our communities. The measure of progress is not just their participation but the tangible changes they bring to residents' lives."
Emirati women within DMT and its entities work in various fields, including planning, engineering, policy, urban development, municipal services, sustainability, and digital transformation. Their efforts shape residents' access to schools and essential services, neighborhood safety, and public spaces that foster family and community life.
During the month-long celebration, DMT will share stories of Emirati women who have contributed to projects with tangible impacts on residents' lives, demonstrating their influence in decision-making, service enhancement, and community functionality. Additionally, DMT aims to encourage younger Emirati women to consider careers in planning and engineering, highlighting emerging fields like artificial intelligence, sustainability, and smart mobility.
