DP World Records Highest-ever Monthly Throughput in Jeddah

DP World has achieved a significant milestone with the South Container Terminal (SCT) in Jeddah handling over 221,200 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in July 2026, marking the highest monthly throughput since its operation began in 1999.

Record Breaking Volumes

This record surpasses pre-disruption levels, as shipping services gradually recover from the disruption that began in late 2023. The growth is attributed to expanding trade flows and DP World’s strategic investments in terminal capacity, equipment, and infrastructure.

"Jeddah is a key gateway for Saudi Arabia’s trade…", said Ahmad Yousef Al Hassan, CEO & MD of DP World GCC. He emphasized the importance of strengthening connections between ports, inland logistics, and distribution facilities to facilitate seamless cargo movement across regional markets.

Terminal Enhancements

DP World’s recent investments at SCT include:

  • Three additional quay cranes, bringing the total to 17.
  • 17 automated electric rubber-tyred gantry cranes (AeRTGs).
  • 35 electric terminal tractors.
  • 30 additional trailers.
  • Upgrades to reefer and cold-storage infrastructure.

These enhancements are crucial for handling increased vessel and cargo volumes, with further expansion planned to boost annual capacity to 5 million TEUs.

"As volumes increase…, our priority is to ensure the terminal has the capacity, equipment, and operational capability to support our customers,"** added Mohammad Alshaikh, CEO of DP World KSA.** He highlighted the focus on strengthening inland connectivity and logistics capabilities to adapt to evolving customer needs.
