DPM/FM Dar Directs PASSCO to Release Wheat as Per ECC Allocations
ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 3rd Sep, 2026) Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister (DPM/FM), Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Thursday chaired a meeting to review wheat stocks in the country and directed PASSCO to immediately release wheat to provinces as per Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) and Steering Committee allocations.
The deputy prime minister appreciated the cooperation and coordination shown by all provinces, the Ministry of National Food Security and Research, and the Ministry of Commerce in addressing issues related to wheat imports, stabilizing prices, and curbing hoarding.
He further instructed provinces to ensure timely payments and lift allocated wheat supplies. The meeting reaffirmed the decision to import up to one million metric tonnes of wheat, for which Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) was tasked to initiate the process immediately. In the initial phase, 750,000 metric tonnes of wheat will be imported, with delivery scheduled for November.
DPM emphasized that all relevant institutions must maintain close coordination to ensure sufficient wheat availability, stable prices, and consumer relief across Pakistan.
The meeting was attended by the Minister for National Food Security and Research, the Minister for Commerce, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) Tariq Bajwa, Secretaries from the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of National Food Security and Research, representatives from provincial governments, and senior Federal and provincial officials.
