The Dubai Environment and Climate Change Authority (DECCA) unveiled details of the Dubai Food Security Strategy 2030, approved by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The strategy aims to ensure food security for all residents, aligning with the UAE's national food security goals.

It is structured around five key pillars:

  • Food Availability: Boosting local production and reducing food waste.
  • Affordability: Ensuring accessible and affordable healthy food.
  • Quality and Safety: Implementing robust food safety standards and promoting sustainable practices.
  • Sustainability and Resilience: Building resilient food systems with efficient and adaptable supply chains.
  • Industry Empowerment: Supporting and growing the agriculture and food production sectors.

Ahmed Mohammed bin Thani, Director General of DECCA, emphasized the strategy's focus on technology, resource optimization, and collaboration with stakeholders to establish a sustainable food security framework for Dubai.

Initiative highlights:

  • Sustainable Local Production: Projects to support the growth of agriculture and food production, promote sustainable practices, and include expansion of fisheries, development of the livestock sector, and cooperatives for small-scale farmers.
  • Resilient Food Supply Chains: Efforts to create a flexible and responsive food supply system through diverse import sources and strategic partnerships.
  • Encouraging Healthy Consumption: Education programs to promote responsible consumption and healthy, sustainable diets.

DECCA's Food Security Department will oversee the implementation of these initiatives in partnership with government entities and the private sector.
