A flight en route from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Israel experienced a dramatic shift in its trajectory, initially turning back to Dubai after two hours of travel, only to be subsequently redirected to Tel Aviv.
A Turnaround of Events
The flight, according to data, was turned back after 2.25 hours, instead of returning to Dubai, it was sent towards Tel Aviv Airport, and its Dubai diversion status was removed. This unexpected change occurred after the flight bound for Israel made an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia, sparking panic with emergency and hijacking codes being activated.
Hijacking Allegations and Safety Concerns
Israeli officials claimed that the flight from the UAE to Israel was diverted to Saudi Arabia while sending emergency signals following a pilot altercation. Aviation sources confirmed a hijacking signal was activated after a physical dispute between the pilots. The aircraft landed safely in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, ensuring the safety of all 180 passengers.
Terrorism Concerns and Investigation
Israeli news sources suggested the incident might be linked to terrorism, claiming that a second team of pilots in civilian clothing landed the aircraft. The co-pilot under investigation is from Oman, adding an international dimension to the inquiry.
Conflicting Reports and Growing Mystery
Initial reports indicated that another flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv had also been turned back to Dubai during its journey. Aviation sources explained that the flight's path was altered towards Dubai, with a return journey estimated to take around two hours.
Background: Normalized Relations and Air Connectivity
Recall that a flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv, Flight FZ1073, issued an emergency signal earlier, safely landing in Saudi Arabia. Dubai, with its flourishing air connections to Israel, has seen a surge in direct flights due to the 2020 Abraham Accords normalizing relations between Israel and the UAE. This agreement has significantly boosted air travel between the two countries, with both nations' airlines increasing flights to meet growing tourism and business demands.
