Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched a series of awareness campaigns and activities targeting students, parents, and drivers as the 2026–2027 academic year begins. These initiatives are part of RTA’s annual traffic safety plan, focusing on promoting safe road behavior and raising awareness about traffic accident causes in school zones. They align with the nationwide "Traffic Safety for School Students" campaign led by the Ministry of Interior.

- Caution around schools: RTA urges parents and drivers to exercise caution near schools, adhering to speed limits, avoiding improper parking, and practicing safe overtaking.
- Designated areas: Emphasis is placed on using designated drop-off and pick-up zones for students.
- Vigilance at crossings: Increased vigilance is encouraged at pedestrian crossings around school buses, especially during the initial weeks of the academic year.

Hussain Al Banna, CEO of RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency, highlighted that:
"School students are a key focus for RTA’s traffic awareness plans, given the rising student population in Dubai. We aim to cultivate a culture of safety from early school years through tailored awareness messages and programs adapted to students’ ages and educational levels."

RTA’s initiatives are data-driven, relying on traffic statistics and surveys:
- During the 2025–2026 academic year, RTA surveyed over 20,000 parents, finding:
- 91% used designated student drop-off/pick-up areas.
- 71% had full awareness of related rules.
- The survey revealed that:
- 44% of students travel by school bus.
- Around 47% use private vehicles.
Zero Fatalities: Thanks to these efforts, RTA reports maintaining zero traffic fatalities at Dubai schools since 2010.
