Acting President Pays Tribute to Armed Forces on Defence Day

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 5th Sep, 2026) Acting President Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has paid tribute to the officers and soldiers of the Armed Forces of Pakistan, as well as to the martyrs and ghazis, on the occasion of Defence and Martyrs Day.

In a message, he stated that:

  • September 6th marks a pivotal moment in Pakistan's history, reflecting the nation's resilience, unity, and sacrifices made for its defence.
  • During the 1965 war, the Armed Forces demonstrated exceptional courage, professionalism, and strategic acumen against enemy aggression, with the nation standing united behind them.
  • The sacrifices of martyrs form the foundation of Pakistan’s freedom, sovereignty, and security. He saluted these men and their families who made immense sacrifices for the country.
  • Today, Pakistan stands as a sovereign state due to these sacrifices. Institutions like the Fauji Foundation continue to support martyr's widows and children with educational fees, medical costs, and pensions, highlighting the broader impact of defending the nation beyond the battlefield.

Referring to the Marka-e-Haq, the Acting President commended the Armed Forces' courage and professionalism and acknowledged the military leadership's role in safeguarding national security while contributing to regional peace and dialogue.

He expressed Pakistan's commitment to peaceful initiatives like the Makkah Agreement, emphasizing its preference for diplomacy over force.

Gilani concluded by stating:

  • Pakistan's greatest strength lies in its people and Armed Forces standing together. The mission of the martyrs must be carried forward through collective efforts for unity, democracy, and development.
  • He prayed for Allah's blessings upon Pakistan, asking for peace, security, and well-being for the Armed Forces personnel and elevation of the ranks of the martyrs.
