ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 5th Sep, 2026) Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif paid heartfelt tribute to the martyrs and veterans of the Armed Forces and their families on the occasion of Defence Day.
In a message on Defence and Martyrs Day, September 6, 2026, he stated:
"September 6 is a glorious chapter in our national history, reminding us of the unparalleled resolve, unity, and sacrifices displayed by our Armed Forces and the nation in defence of our beloved homeland."
He continued, emphasizing the sacrifices made:
"This day provides us with an opportunity to remember the martyrs who defended Pakistan’s security, sovereignty, and independence. Despite the enemy's undeclared aggression and numerical superiority on September 6, 1965, the professionalism and operational preparedness of Pakistan's Armed Forces achieved a humiliating and resounding defeat."
The Prime Minister highlighted the historical significance:
"History records that during the 1965 war, our Armed Forces demonstrated exceptional courage while the Pakistani nation showed remarkable unity and resilience. Together, they forged an enduring legacy in our national history."
He commended the leadership of the Armed Forces, including the Chief of the Army Staff, Chief of Defence Forces, Air Chief Marshal, and Naval Chief, for their strategic contributions to Operation Bunyanum Marsoos, adding:
"The resounding success of this operation adds another glorious chapter to our military history. The spirit of September 6 remains as vibrant as ever."
Addressing current challenges, Sharif noted:
"Our traditional adversary, along with internal divisive forces, continues their nefarious designs against Pakistan, but these efforts are met with decisive defeats. Hostile schemes aimed at destabilizing the country through hybrid warfare will be thoroughly thwarted."
He concluded by reiterating the nation's vision:
"Our primary task is to eradicate ignorance, poverty, and backwardness and transform Pakistan according to the vision of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Muhammad Iqbal. Our strength lies in a united, peaceful, stable, and economically robust nation."
