Joe Root recently broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 68 Test half-centuries by scoring his 69th fifty. He also became the second player to complete 23,000 international runs in 521 innings, reaching the milestone one innings earlier than Tendulkar.

However, it was not England’s star batter Joe Root, but his younger brother Billy Root who announced his retirement from professional cricket at the end of the 2026 season.

The 34-year-old Billy Root spent 14 years in county cricket. He represented Nottinghamshire and Glamorgan, scoring 4,107 runs in 83 first-class matches, including seven centuries. His highest score was 229.

Billy also played a crucial role in Glamorgan’s four trophy wins, including their 2024 One-Day Cup triumph. Due to limited opportunities this season, he played only two County Championship matches.
