Expert Highlights Role Of Lifestyle In Reducing Alzheimer’s Risk
ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st Sep, 2026) Neurosurgeon Professor Dr Raza Khairat Rizvi on Monday said Alzheimer’s disease gradually impairs memory, thinking and other brain functions, eventually affecting a person’s ability to perform routine activities.
Speaking to a local news channel, he explained that the disease was commonly seen after the age of 55 to 60 and involved amyloid and tau proteins, which could damage brain cells and impair memory. He noted that the frontal lobe, responsible for decision-making and memory, is among the brain areas affected.
Dr Rizvi stressed that an unhealthy diet, excessive consumption of processed foods, uncontrolled blood sugar and lipid levels, and a sedentary lifestyle contribute to the development of Alzheimer’s disease. He further emphasized the importance of regular exercise and walking after the age of 50, stating that a healthy lifestyle could help lower the risk of developing the disease.
