In a significant development regarding the fake bank accounts case, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has challenged the Islamabad Accountability Court’s order dated October 8, 2025, before the Islamabad High Court (IHC). The IHC has acknowledged the petition’s merits, issued notices to the involved parties, and requested their replies.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Sarfraz Dogar and Justice Ayaz Shaukat has scheduled a hearing on the matter. NAB argued that the Islamabad Accountability Court had retracted its order dated October 4, 2022, concerning frozen assets, citing overlooked crucial material on the record.
According to NAB, the accountability court ignored the time frame specified under Section 13 of the NAB Ordinance, 1999. They further claimed that the court's decision was made without NAB's participation in civil proceedings, emphasizing that a civil court judgment is not binding on the accountability court.
NAB also highlighted that certain important evidence and records were not considered when the order freezing assets was withdrawn. They referred to the statement of Naseer Abdullah Hussain Lotha, recorded under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, regarding the alleged offense.
Counsel for Respondent No. 4, Muhammad Waqas Malik, attended the court and received the notice. The IHC has set the case for further proceedings on October 27, 2026.
