Father and Son Die of Toxic Gas Inhalation in Sewer Line
Multan, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 22nd Aug, 2026) – A father and son lost their lives after inhaling toxic gas inside a sewer line near BCG Chowk, prompting the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Multan to clarify their unofficial status.
According to a WASA spokesperson, Muhammad Ismail descended into the sewer line and became unconscious due to poisonous gas. His son, Ramzan, entered the line in a bid to rescue him but both succumbed to the toxic fumes on the spot.
WASA Multan Managing Director Faisal Shaukat, in a statement, stated that the deceased were not on official WASA duty and had entered the sewer line in their personal capacity to assist a private contractor.
Expressing sorrow over the tragedy, MD Shaukat emphasized that WASA prioritizes the safety of its field staff, adhering to strict standard operating procedures (SOPs) and providing protective equipment during all official operations.
