Federal Committee Approves Revised Rs 56bn Plan For Babu Sabu Wastewater Plant

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd Aug, 2026) A major hurdle in the execution of the Babu Sabu Wastewater Treatment Plant project has been cleared following the approval of its revised plan and cost estimates by the Federal Government’s Economic and Technical Committee.

Under the updated plan, the project cost has been revised from the initial estimate of Rs 52 billion to Rs 56 billion. The case has been forwarded to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) for formal re-approval, paving the way for the practical stage of execution.

Official sources indicated that operational work on the plant is expected to commence within a year, while overall completion of the project is projected to take approximately four and a half years.

The project will be built on 836 acres of land in Babu Sabu, which was acquired by the government during 1992–1993. In its first phase, the facility will treat sewage water originating from the Cantt Drain, Multan Road, and Gulshan Ravi areas to mitigate pollution and improve wastewater management in the city.
