Female Artists Shaping New Cultural Narratives; Jamal Shah At FJWU Degree Show
Emerging female artists are playing a vital role in expanding Pakistan’s cultural footprint and shaping its visual arts landscape, as highlighted by former culture minister and prominent artist Jamal Shah.
Speaking at the inauguration of Fatima Jinnah Women University’s (FJWU) annual degree show, titled "Stories from the Studios", Jamal Shah praised the graduating cohort for their work. He noted how they address complex social and cultural themes through innovative techniques and original visual storytelling.
Organized by FJWU's Department of Fine Arts, the exhibition showcases thesis projects across various mediums, including painting, printmaking, miniature painting, communication design, textiles, and fashion design.
FJWU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Bushra Mirza, who served as the guest of honor, commended the graduates' technical skills and praised the university's commitment to fostering female creative leadership.
During the event, Fine Arts Department Chairperson Dr. Suriyya Chaudhary announced discussions on establishing a Heritage Museum on campus to preserve regional crafts and student archives. Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Azra Yasmin encouraged graduates to leverage their artistic training into sustainable entrepreneurial ventures, highlighting Pakistan's growing creative industries.
Attendees included Registrar Ms. Naseem Akhtar, department heads, and faculty members, alongside a significant student turnout.
