Five-zone Ban Lifted: Kite, String Manufacturing Allowed Across Lahore
UrduPoint (5th Sep, 2026) Preparations for Basant 2027 have intensified, leading to significant progress for kite and string makers in Lahore. The district administration has reversed its previous decision, lifting the restriction on manufacturing locations.
Under the new guidelines, strings and kites can now be produced throughout Lahore, without confinement to five specific zones. However, only registered and licensed manufacturers will be permitted to engage in this activity. To obtain a license, manufacturers must submit detailed applications including the manufacturing location, address, and a picture of the site.
Earlier proposals to restrict manufacturing to five designated areas have been abandoned. The administration emphasizes that only registered manufacturers with a No Objection Certificate (NOC) will be authorized to produce approved kites and strings.
Specific standards will govern kite size and cotton string fabric. A license fee of Rs1,000 will be charged. Kites or strings not adhering to the prescribed standards will not be permitted.
